Chainsaw

QQI Level 5, Chainsaw Operations (5N3404) training course is a safety awareness course on the use of Chainsaws. Candidates will be shown how to Maintain, Sharpen and Operate a chainsaw safely. This will include some cutting up of Felled Timber.

Course Contents:

  • Typical chainsaw accidents
  • Discussion on how to prevent these accidents
  • Safe operation procedures of chainsaws.
  • Practical session on chainsaw maintenance and operations
  • Cleaning saw
  • Checking safety features
  • Replacing chain
  • Maintenance to chain bar.
  • Fuelling saw, mixing fuels, selection of oils.
  • Replacing parts
  • Sharpening chain
  • Tightening and setting the chain
  • Using PPE (Required standard and specification)
  • Use of the saw and various types of cuts
  • Care of the saw in transport

Entry Requirements: Candidates must be over 18 years of age with a good command of the English language

Assessment: Skills demonstration: 60% Written Examination: 40%

Training Materials: All learning material will be provided to you for the duration of the course and you will be registered for certification though our centre. The candidates should also bring their PPE, and Chainsaw (if possible).

Certification: Successful applicants will receive a QQI level 5 in Chainsaw Maintenance and Operations.

Transfer and Progression: Successful completion of this component award enables the learner to transfer to programmes leading to other certificates where this component is a mandatory or an elective requirement.
