Unit 201 Maintenance of a chainsaw

Candidates are trained and assessed in unit 201 which is maintenance of a chainsaw and the cutting system.

After completing this part of the course the candidate will be able to perform the following:

  1. Be able to work safety in a workshop or field environment
  2. Be able to carry out maintenance of a chainsaw both daily and weekly
  3. Be able to carry out operational chainsaw checks
  4. Know relevant health and safety legislation and industry good practice
  5. Know how to carry out maintenance of chainsaw and cutting system

Unit 202 Cross-cut Timber using a chainsaw

  1. Be able to work safely
  2. Be able to cross-cut timber using a chainsaw
  3. Know relevant health and safety legislation and industry good practice
  4. Know how to cross-cut timber using a chainsaw
  5. Understand tension from compression

Unit 203 Fell & Process Trees Using a Chainsaw

  1. Be able to Work Safely
  2. Be able to fell and process trees up to 380mm
  3. Know relevant health and safety legislation and industry good practice
  4. Know how to remove branches from felled trees using a chainsaw
  5. Know how to take down hung-up trees

Unit 301 Felling and processing trees over 380m

  1. Be able to promote health and safety and industry good practice
  2. Be able to fell trees and process trees over 380mm
  3. Understand relevant health and safety legislation and industry good practice
  4. Understand how to remove branches from felled trees using a chainsaw
  5. Understand how to take down hung up trees
